CCleaner - the tool I recommend to Windows users

Although I’m using Linux, I’m used to recommending this tool to windows users.

CCleaner is a freeware system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool. It removes unused files from your system – allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. Additionally it contains a fully featured registry cleaner. CCleaner allows Windows to run faster, more efficiently and gives you more hard disk space.

For me, the beauty of CCleaner is Small, Fast and Free. Although its main purpose is to clean any unnecessary files from your hard-drive it also removes temp files and recent file lists (MRUs) from many third party applications including Media Player, eMule, Kazaa, Google Toolbar, Netscape, Microsoft Office, Nero, Adobe Acrobat, WinRAR, WinAce, WinZip and many more…

The interface in CCleaner is very easy to navigate and before taking any action, you will always be asked to confirm that you are sure about what you want to do. There is a useful registry cleaner that includes advanced features to remove unused and old entries, including File Extensions, ActiveX Controls, ClassIDs, ProgIDs, Uninstallers, Shared DLLs, Fonts, Help Files, Application Paths, Icons, Invalid Shortcuts and more… also comes with a comprehensive backup feature.
